Field Notes: First Look at the New G. Loomis IMX-PRO GREEN Inshore Rods

By G. Loomis Pro Captain John Irwin

I recently had the chance to get hands-on with the new G. Loomis IMX-PRO GREEN 841S and 842S spinning rods while inshore fishing for redfish. I have used G. Loomis rods for my guiding for years and had high expectations of the newest inshore series, and I walked away genuinely impressed.

We were throwing small soft plastics on light jigs — the kind of setup that demands finesse, sensitivity, and casting performance. Both rods were paired with 2500-sized reels spooled with 10 lb PowerPro, and the balance and responsiveness were immediately noticeable.

These rods shine in the sweet spot between performance and value. They offer much of the same feel and sensitivity we’ve come to expect from the NRX+ line, but at a more accessible price point — making them a go-to option for anglers looking to fish artificial baits with confidence.

Whether I was making long casts to shallow-water reds, staying in constant contact with my lure, or driving the hook home, the PRO GREEN delivered on every front. The 841S had a slightly lighter touch, great for subtle presentations, while the 842S gave me a bit more backbone without sacrificing any sensitivity.

It’s clear these rods were built for the technical inshore angler — especially those who love fishing soft plastics and want premium performance without the premium price tag. The IMX-PRO GREEN rods feel like an extension of your hand and provide that “connected” feel that’s hard to beat when fishing artificial lures.

The IMX-PRO GREEN series has nine models in the lineup. Three different actions in the 7’ size, four actions in the 7’6”, as well as two casting models in the 6’8”. The CI4+ reel seat provides outstanding sensitivity for detecting those subtle bumps, and the Fuji guides offer perfect balance and durability.  The full cork handle gives the rods the classic look that G. Loomis is known for while providing a great feeling in your hand.

If you’re looking for a versatile, responsive rod for light inshore work, the new IMX-PRO GREEN series deserves a spot on your deck.
