PRO TALK: IMX-PRO OFFSHORE | Product Walk Through

The G. Loomis IMX-PRO OFFSHORE lineup of rods features eight rods in the series that are designed for every tactic that we use, whether it's casting a small lure or your flylining a smaller bait, an anchovy or a smaller sardine, to dropping down a sinker rig for a bigger bluefin.

Paired a Shimano Tranx 500 with the IMX-PRO OFFSHORE 96 - 40. This is an eight-foot rod that's designed for casting lighter lures — even live bait in some scenarios — at a calico bass, yellowtail, and smaller tunas. The Multi-Taper Design technology in this series enables G. Loomis to play with the actions of each or every rod. In this particular rod, the 96 - 40, what they have done here has given us a soft enough tip, shutting off at the right points, to where we can still cast baits very efficiently and very far, as well as giving us enough pulling power to pull these fish, whether they're in heavy structure or just dogging us down deep if it's a tuna or a yellowtail.

The 96 - 20 is an 8'0", 15 to 30-pound medium light action, and this setup we're using with the Trinidad 14 is particularly good for flylining, lighter line, smaller baits, and those finesse applications, 15, 20, 25-pound Fluorocarbon with a small hook. Getting those baits out away from the boat with a light line and a light rod makes a huge difference at the end of the day.

The 90 - 50 is a 7'6", 40 to 60-pound rod and is something we will use primarily for flylining a larger bait or dropping a sinker rig down. This rod enables you to fish a multitude of different sinkers while still giving you plenty of action on the bait. The sinker rig could be anywhere from a 6 to a 16-ounce sinker, depending on your conditions, wind, drift, and current. One of the great features of this series of rods is the BattleOn grip — a durable, comfortable grip that enables you to fight fish for extended periods on the rail. One of its cool features is its non-dent material, allowing it to come back to form at all times.

The last rod in the series is the heavy tuna rod designed for fish upwards of 300 pounds with various techniques — knife-jigging, flat-fall style lures, or fishing a frozen or imitation flying fish from the kite. The IMX-PRO OFFSHORE 90 - 80 is a 7'6", 60 to 100-pound XXH rod, and what makes this rod so great is that it's lightweight yet still extremely powerful.

The entire IMX-PRO OFFSHORE series features a SeaGuide guide train and Fuji reel seat for added performance. All of these features enable these rods to be lightweight yet powerful.
