1. What are the differences in material type?
The differences in the different material types are as follows.

GLX- This material is phenomenally light, amazingly strong, and unbelievably smooth. GLX is an ultra-high modulas graphite that we've coupled with super-light graphite scrim to achieve unprecedented performance. The rods for those who demand the very, very best.

IMX- We've refined IMX continually since its invention and today it's better than ever: remarkably light, sensitive, and powerful, with graphite scrim and a non-glare buffed finish that adds an extra measure of stealth but no extra weight.

GL3- Technically, GL3 has a high strain rate and an advanced resin system. untechnically, that means these rods are really, really strong. They're also light, easy to cast, and even better, very affordable. An outstanding value for beginners and experienced anglers alike.

GL2- GL2 offers superior strength and durability for any situation you might find yourself in. this was our original graphite and it's undergone significant enhancments over the years.
2. What is action?
Rod action refers to the flex characteristics of a rod, varying from slow to Extra-Fast. An Extra-Fast action rod flexes mainly at the tip. Slower ( or softer ) actions flex throughout the entire length of the rod. Moderate action rods fall in between. We tailor the action of each of our rods to the particular fishing application for which they're designed, taking into account the preferred lure action, optimum casting range, fighting power, the feeling of the rod, and countless other variables.
3. What is taper?
Taper: for G.Loomis is the rating system used in the G.Loomis catalog created to help you select the best rod for your casting style. Rod taper refers to where the rod bends during the casts and while fighting a fish. Many people refer to the taper as the action of a rod.
4. What is power?
All Spin, cast and saltwater blanks are rated for power in a 00-8 numeric basis. It is normally, the last number of each model number. The exception being a "-2" or "-3", which refers a multi-piece blank, and the number of pieces. The higher the number, the stronger/stiffer the blank. The lower the number the lighter/softer the rod. Power ratings are group specific, for example: steelhead blanks do not have the same "4-power" rating as a surf rod blank, or a bass rod. Each are compared only to the blanks in their specific-use category.
5. Is it possible to receive information on guide spacing for building a custom built rod?
If you are looking for guide spacing feel free to contact our customer service department at 1-800-662-8818, or use our "Contact Us" form to forward your question.
6. What guides do you use on your GLX rods?
The guides that we use on our GLX rods are Fugi SiC guides (these are a Silicone Carbide guide) and REC recoil guides.
7. Is it alright to use braided lines?
There is no problem using braided lines with any G.Loomis rods. A precautionary measure though if you do use braided lines is to change your line semi-frequently. Over time there can be a silt build up inside of the braided line that could result in damaging your guides.
8. How do I change my Venture reel from left to right? Or vice versa.
To change the direction of the venture reels is a very simple process. Start by taking the spool apart form the body of the reel. Unscrew the roller clutch screw and take the roller clutch out and flip it over the opposite way and re insert it into the roller clutch holder. Replace the roller clutch screw that holds the clutch in place and put the spool back onto the body and you have your reel retrieve in the opposite direction.
9. Can I use my Venture fly reel in saltwater?
There is no problem with using the Venture fly reel in saltwater. You will still need to use the same cleaning techniques you would on anything else that you use in saltwater but there will be no harm done to the reel.
